Our research advances hydrologic modeling and its applications in extreme event predictions (e.g., floods and droughts) and climate change impact assessments.
Key research questions include:
- What are the driving factors behind extreme hydrologic events?
- What are the dominant hydrologic processes in different regions?
- How can watershed delineation and parameter estimation be improved for hydrologic modeling?
- How can observational data uncertainties be incorporated into flow forecasting?
- How can we better predict extreme hydrologic events?
- What are the impacts of climate change on water systems?
Our research uses in situ and remote sensing data, integrates machine learning with process-based hydrologic modeling, and runs large-domain simulations on supercomputers. We are passionate about conducting open, reproducible, and collaborative research. Our research outcomes will help improve the usefulness of hydrologic observations and models in water engineering and interdisciplinary problems.
